– The sage will speak of your highest greatness, O Waters, at the seat of Vivasvant, for you advance three periods, seven by seven. The Indus, by its force, advances faster than the rapids2.
– Varuna dug the way for you to flow, O Indus, with your strength. You flow down a slope from the top of the Earth, since you flow before those who flow.
– Their howls cross the Sky, above the Earth, roaring endlessly, rising through the Light. Like rains from a cloud, they thunder, when the Indus runs like a bellowing Bull.
– Towards you, O Indus, they flow, thundering, like mothers with their child, like the Cow with its milk. Like a warrior king, you guide them like two hems, when you strive to flow before them on the slope.
– Unite in my praise, O Ganges, O Yamuna, O Sarasvatî3, O Shutudrî4, O Parushnî5. With the Asiknî6, with the Marudvridha7, with the Vitastata8, listen with those who love the Soma in the cup.
– You are the first who comes at the same time as the Susartu, the Rasâ, the Shvestya9. You come, O Indus, on the good chariot with those who come: the Kubha10, the Gomatî11, the Krumu12, the Mehatnû13.
– Straight, bright, vast, it flows around the wide celestial kingdoms. The Indus, uninterrupted, the most liquid of liquids, is distinguished, like a Horse of beautiful, splendid appearance.
– The Indus has good Horses, a good chariot, good clothes. He is golden, well-made, hero-like. The young woman14, rich in wool15, rich in plants, goes towards the good part16, rich in sweetness.
– The Indus has harnessed its rapid chariot. By his powerful Horses, he desires to go into battle. Because the greatness of this great arouses admiration. Undeceived, glorious in his deeds, he is powerful.
