Mandala 6; Hymn 63

    To the Ashvins
    Rishi: bharadvāja bārhaspatya
Meters : paṅktiḥ; bhurikpaṅkti; nicṛttriṣṭup; svarāḍbṛhatī; svarāṭpaṅkti; āsurīpaṅkti

1 – Where, today, has our praise been understood by these two, splendid and much called, like a messenger who inspires veneration? This one made the two Nasatyas turn towards here because you are the most loved in our thoughts.
2 – Come rightly to me, to my call, so that, through song, you may drink the plant1. Even if we are close to what hurts, nothing can defeat us, neither outside nor inside.
3 – It was prepared from the juice of the plant in the sacrificial space, on the extended Kusha litter, offering the simplest approach2. Hands outstretched, wanting you both, approaching you, the stones3 adorned you.
4 – Agni stood up for you in sacrifices. He rises, dripping with clarified butter, for those who invoke. The invoker, with grateful spirit, united the invocation which causes growth to the Nasatyas.
5 – For splendor, the daughter of the sun rode in your chariot, rejoicing greatly, protecting hundreds4. Be, through your magical illusions, the birth of men who dance5, of those who love sacrifices.
6 – With these marvelous splendors, for the blossoming of the sun, for beauty, the birds flew away for perfection, approaching with right utterance of the song, O you two, the generous.
7 – May the birds, the Horses, those who shoot best, lead you towards what rejoices. Your chariot, quick as thought, has released the food6 that the many offerings give.
8 – For you give much, O you who give much pleasure, make our Cow swell so that our energy does not dry up. And you two are honored by this excellent hymn, as well as the intoxicating drops, which flow generously from you both.
9 – And mine are the two mares of Puraya7, fast, and a hundred of Sumîlha8, prepared at Peruka. Shânda produced well-formed walleyes9. Ten desires approach greatness.
10 – Purupantha10 gave hundreds and thousands of Horses for the hymn addressed to you. To the Bharadvajas he gave them for his hymn. Demons can be destroyed by many wonderful acts.
11 – May I reach out to you two with the wise men?

    2The approach to Brahman .

    3Soma pressing stones.

    4Hundreds of men.
